Today, the Class40 sets sail from Lorient La Base towards Saint-Malo, the starting port of the Route du Rhum. Around 210 nautical miles lie ahead: a short passage compared with the 3,542-mile transatlantic race that begins on 1 November, but an important final stage before the start.
Lorient La Base is one of the leading hubs for offshore racing preparation. In recent weeks, the boat has been through its final checks: technical work, safety equipment, food, repairs, sail preparation and every item needed for life at sea have been reviewed, loaded and stowed.
The Route du Rhum village opens on 20 October. Once in Saint-Malo, only the last small adjustments will remain. The countdown is now truly underway.
