One of the most exciting races of the Mini season is about to set sail

Aina Bauza sets off solo today at 1 p.m. aboard her Mini 6.50, the distinctive Redó by Ànima Negra, bound for the Azores. This solo race, which starts from the French port of Les Sables-d’Olonne, ventures 1,200 miles into the Atlantic Ocean, connecting Les Sables-d’Olonne with the island of Horta in the Azores.

Now in its 10th edition, the race is one of the few to cover this route in both directions, presenting a true challenge for sailors. It consists of two legs and a total of 5,000 km, with 1,200 miles in each leg, and the crossing is expected to last approximately 20 days.

Created in 2006, the SAS race quickly gained prestige among sailors and sponsors. It gives both newcomers and veterans of the Mini circuit the opportunity to test themselves in a demanding and formative event. The race is not only a challenging offshore course, but also excellent preparation for any sailor aspiring to cross the Atlantic. For Aina, it marks a return to the Atlantic shortly after setting the solo Cádiz–Bahamas world record. This time she is racing against more than 70 competitors, with exciting weather forecasts that should make the fleet fly.
